England has called on the West Ham striker Carlton Cole on the cover before Wednesday's friendly against France after Andy Carroll and Gabriel Agbonlahor have been injured during the weekend.
Neither Carroll and Agbonlahor were left out of the game, but Cole was recruited by the team as a precaution.
Cole was not an appropriate entry for the Hammers this season, but played seven games for England, the last of which arrived in Egypt in March.
Carroll was one of four players called up by England on Saturday for the first time after the striker showed good form for Newcastle.
Other additions include new striker Jay Bothroyd in Cardiff, Jordan Henderson Middle Sunderland and Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.
