South Korean In-Kyung Kim tied a record of 9-63 with low torque take the lead after the first round of the LPGA's season opener in Thailand on Thursday.

Kim, ranked No. 7, started with a birdie and continued to look the other nine. He tied the record set in 2007 Cape winner Suzann Pettersen of Norway, Stacy Prammanasudh in 2008 and defending champion Ai Miyazato of Japan in 2010.

"I have not thought about the record, I just wanted to play well," said Kim. "I'll do it more often."

At the beginning of $ 1,450,000 was played in wet conditions, when heavy torrential rains earlier this week. Since the wetted surface is a 6469-yard Siam Country Club Pattaya Old Course, players were allowed to use preferred lies.

"I started with a birdie, then continued to make birdies," Kim said. "My coach and I work on my game and it really helped today. It was a good start I could not be happier."

Top-ranked Yani Tseng and July each Inkster shot 66 and was three strokes behind Kim.

"It's a pretty good lap for this course. Play this year," said Tseng. "I hit a lot of 7 iron, 6 iron, 5 iron, which is totally different than last year. I did not hit my irons so good, but I will be patient and wait for the next three days to improve."

Inkster began with bogeys at second and third holes before sinking seven birdies and an eagle with a bogey to go third in the afternoon.

"I hit a bad shot in three and two, I hit a good shot, but I could not go up and down," the 50-year Inkster said. "I hung in there and started hitting some great iron and got birdies. I did not really get into too much trouble today. Hit my irons really well."
